The Comprehensive Plan of Gyeongnam Tourism aims to develop Gyeongnam into 2 major bases and 3 thematic areas distinguishing its projects into the local specified strategic business and politically projected business. It promotes to attain the final goal of 2016 in 3 steps : short term(2002-2006), mid-term (2007-2011) and long-term(2012-2016).
The basic, strategic goal of Gyeongnam province is to develop Changwon, Masan, Jinhae, Gimhae into 'Eastern Urbanization Base' equipped with accommodation facilities and Jinju, Sancheon into 'Western Urbanization Base'. It also includes the development of 3 thematic tour zones: Miryang, Yangsan, Euiryeong, Haman, Changyeong into 'Eastern Mountain Tour Zone', Hadong, Sancheong into 'Western Mountain Tour Zone' and Tonyeong, Geoje, Goseong, Namhae into 'Southern Marine Tour Zone'.
The core business of each base and zone includes the development of a resort complex in the Jinju vicinity, a golf course and a plateau tour ranch in Changnyeong, Dagok Resort in Hamyang and Jangmok Comprehensive Resort Complex in Geoje.
The politically projected business includes the establishment of a hotel in Dotseom, Masan, International Cruise Service in the Masan port, the improvement to the International Airport of the Sacheon Airport, the remodeling of Bugok Spa Valley into Tourism Specified District, and the establishment of Oriental Medicinal Resort in Sancheong, the Dinasour Theme Park in Goseong and the Wellbeing Resort in Euiryeong and Haman. Until 2006, the end of the 1st step, the province will propel the enlargement of weekend farms, accommodation facilities and the tourism belt formed by leisure and sports. Until 2011, the end of the 2nd step, it will propel the establishment of Green Tea Cultivation Complex, golf courses, the tourism ranch, Dagok Farm Experience Facilities and the thematic School. Until 2016, the end of the 3rd step, the province will proceed the development of Jangmok Comprehensive Resort Complex, Dagok Resort and golf courses in order to promote the quality in the already developed tourism industries.
This Comprehensive Plan of Gyeongnam Tourism is prepared by the co-work of Gyeongnam Development Institute, Samsung Everland and Nomura Institute in Japan with the revenue of 300 million won. It is projected to meet with the changing tourism environment such as the establishment of the tourism infrastructure like the opening of Daegeon-Jinju Expressway, the construction of Geoje Grand Bridge and enlarged leasure time according to the 5 day work situation.
