Gimhae Buncheong Ceramics Festival is held to foster the local economy by developing Gimhae ceramic wares as tourism souvenirs. Gimhae Buncheongsagi(ceramic wares), which the ancestors of Gayaguk used, is appreciated as preserving the typical beauty of Korea. Though it looks imperfect and ugly-shaped, it has a mature beauty. Buncheongsagi, with its warm citrine surface, was newly revived in 400 years. The festival is held with a title of "People, putting their souls".
Main events are composed of a ritual wishing a successful festival, setting up the Jangseung(totem poles) and fireworks for the first evening ceremony, as well as auctioning ceramic wares which were made in the traditional kiln. There are also other events like kindling the traditional kiln, ceramic art classes, students' ceramic ware contest, making one's own potteries and selecting real ceramics for the last day event. The festival also provides a ceramic ware hall and Gaya earthenware reproduction exhibition. In the kiln kindling event, visitors can see the ceramics production progress. And in the ceramic ware making event, tourists can build his own potteries, put their own pictures or writings on the ceramics, and receive their own ceramic wares with free delivery. During the festival, the traditional kiln is set in the festival venue to show visitors the progress of making ceramic wares. And tourists can also purchase ceramics at a resonable price. In the real pottery selecting event, tourists take the ceramic ware for free, if they select a real one. However, they break it at the spot if they select a fake one. It provides amusement for the festival. During the festival, ceramic ware goods are sold at a wholesale price. Kiln tour is available in the vicinity.
