Dolmen (‘Goindol’ in Korean) is the tomb of a tribal chief in prehistoric times. During the prehistoric times, our ancestors moved from the mainland to neighboring islands and lived in the riverside or the coast. There are many dolmen sites in Geoje including Cheongok-ri of Sadeung-myeon, Jiseok-ri of Dundeok-myeon, Haksanri, Sodong-ri of Ilwoon-myeon, the whole area of Jisepo and Dagong-ri of Yeoncho-myeon. Especially, disputes between Jangjwa village and Jiseok village concerning the direction of dolmen continued for a long period of time as many believed that the village the dolmen’s stone table points would perish. Now, the stone table points the middle point between these two villages. Three dolmens are located at national highways, the entrance of village and farmland. It was designated as the 88th cultural heritage of Gyeongsangnamdo on 20th December 1983.
