As the first-built fortress of the Silla period, Dundeok Giseong fortress is the oldest mountain fortress among the ones that still exist. It is an important relic that shows the construction methods of Silla. The walls that were built in the Three Kingdom period and repaired in the Goryeo period have significant value for the study of development of military architecture. It is also known to be the place of King Uijong’s confinement after the military coup in Goryeo.
