Located on the southern coast, Mt. Garasan at 585m above sea level is the highest in Geoje. This mountain is connected to Mt. Nojasan. The mountain behind Hakdong village is Mt. Nojasan and the mountain behind Dadae village is Mt. Garasan. The name of this mountain originated from the colorful leaves making the mountain look like a silky mountain showing the distinct characteristics of four seasons. There is a platform for the prayer for rain before reaching the beacon mound. There was a large temple called ‘Gyeonamsa’ in the period of Silla Dynasty underneath Gyeonambong of the mountain and there were about 70 monks. In the Southern part of the peak, a fortress in the period of Koryo built with stones still remains. The beacon mound in the mountain was used for watching over Japanese invaders and it was an outpost linked with Hanbaegol beacon mound in Tongyeong. On the mountainside, there is a fortress built in the period of Koryo Dynasty and it is recorded in ‘Donggukyeojiseungram’ that on the south of the mountain, there was Songbyeonghyeon nearby Dadae of the present day.
