Jisimdo Island, 20 minutes away from Jangseungpohang Port by ferry, is also called Camellia Island because of its abundant camellia trees. The island has a virgin forest of evergreens and all sorts of other trees. Thirty-seven kinds of plants, including silver magnolia, pine trees, and Geoje sickle neofinetia, a rare variety, grow naturally on this island. As Jisimdo Island was a strategic location for the military for a long time, a gun emplacement and a searchlight tower can be seen where Japanese troops were stationed at the Russo-Japanese War.
