This is where General Yi Sun-sin had his first victory during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. It is a significant place in that it triggered the successive victories and contributed to ending the war. The park was established to commemorate the Okpo Battle and to inherit the spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin. A ritual ceremony and a commemoration event take place every year.
