Located at the downstream of Hwanggang River, Hapcheon-gun is surrounded by high mountains on the west, the south, and the north. Mt. Gayasan on the north is one of them. On the east Hwanggang River flows to Nakdonggang River making the border with Changnyeong-gun. The major facilities and cultural heritages include Hapcheon Dam and Haeinsa Temple. Hapcheon Dam, a multipurpose dam completed in 1988, holds 7.9 million tons of water and produces 100,000 kw electricity.
