Saryangdo Island
Saryangdo under the administration of Tongyeong-si is located in the midst of Hallyeo Maritime National Park. It consists of three islands: upper island, lower island and Suyado island 1.5km apart. In the upper island live 2,192 residents of 1,011 families. Saryangdo is frequented with 200,000 tourists a year and 5,000 visitors per weekend enjoying climbing and fishing. The upper island is popular among climbers and sea bathers while the lower island is visited by fishermen. The mountain in the upper island is called Jirimangsan with a nickname of 'Saryangdo Jirisan.' The 6.5km climbing course ranging Mt.Jirisan(398km), Mt.Bulmosan(399m) and Oknyeobong Peak(291m) takes about 4.5 hours. After passing steep cliffs, walking on the single rope, and climbing up the ladder and iron steps, climbers face cozy islets floating on the blue south sea on both sides of Jirisan mountain ridge.
